The Norwegian National Youth Orchestra is very pleased to invite applicants to its course, concerts and tour in the period 23rd July – 16th August 2012. This year the orchestra will tour to venues in Bergen, Kristiansand and Oslo in addition to the traditional three concerts during the Elverum Music Festival.

It is our great pleasure to welcome Maestro Josep Caballé Domenech back to Elverum and NNYO. Josep will conduct 2 concerts, including working with the renowned violinist Henning Kraggerud. Peter Szilvay will conduct the tour programme which will include a new work written for Ole Edvard Antonsen by Helge Sunde.

NNYO can also invite students to a winter course to be held in the first week of January, 2011. All musicians who are selected for the summer course will be invited to participate.

Pre-course in Elverum
The pre-course will start on 23rd July for the strings and 24th July for winds and percussion. The tutors are experienced and renowned orchestra musicians from Norwegian and Nordic orchestras and many of them are also professors / teachers at the Norwegian Music Academy and conservatories.

Tour to Bergen, Kristiansand and Oslo
NNYO will in 2012 guest three concert halls after the closing concert of the Elverum Music Festival. On Sunday 12th August, the orchestra will appear in Bergen’s famous Grieg Hall. The journey then goes Kristiansand’s brand new concert hall, Kilden. We then travel Oslo and play in the concert hall there on 16th August.

Chamber music concerts in Elverum Concerts will be programmed from suggestions entered by the members of the orchestra. The festival offers a symbolic fee to participating musicians.

Music students who can document a high instrumental level may apply. All applicants must send an application form. ALL interested musicians (also last year’s participants) must fill out the application form.

Any applicant who is NOT a full time music student must send in a recording of 15 minutes standard excerpts regardless of previous participation.

Woodwinds, brass and percussion:
Auditions held in 2011 were also for participation in 2012. Interested applicants who did not audition may send in an application form and may be contacted about auditions or other forms of evaluation if applicable. Part allocation will primarily be based on audition results and previous course participation.

Strings:
Auditions will be held for all leaders of string sections (for the 2010 orchestra). The auditions will be held in Oslo 26th March. Applicants from music academies abroad must include a recording with the application. Part allocation will primarily be based on audition results and previous course participation.

A list of excerpts will be published on our website in due course.

All other string players who have not participated earlier must enclose a recording of approx. 15 minutes standard excerpts of solo repetoire with their application.

Course - free of charge:
The course (including accommodation and meals in Elverum Folk High School and on tour), is free of charge. Buses will be arranged from Oslo to Elverum (approx. 2 1/2 hours) at the start of the course period, and the tour will end in Oslo.

Participants who can document travel expenses over NOK 500,- (approx. EUR 60) may receive up to the amount of NOK 1500,- to support their travel to / from Oslo (economy tickets only / documentation needed). Participants must themselves arrange and pay for: accommodation in Oslo if needed the nights before and after the course period. travel to / from Elverum if arriving or leaving on other times than the arranged buses.

Insurance:
All participants must have travel and instrument insurance. NNYO will take out insurance on instruments borrowed from the Norwegian Music Academy (double basses, percussion etc.)

All applicants (also previous participants) need to
fill in the application form. Remember to include a recording if applicable.
